Man arrested for engaging in physical relations under false pretext of marriage in Siliguri

Siliguri, 30th October: A man accused of deceit found himself behind bars after his girlfriend filed a complaint against him. The incident surfaced from the Gurung Basti area under Ward No. 3 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).


Reportedly, the accused Philip Poddar, a resident of Ashrampara, under the jurisdiction of the Bhakti Nagar police station, was in a romantic relationship with a woman and was living in a rented apartment with her for the last four years in the said area.

Earlier, about four years ago, Philip met the woman at a market in Siliguri. Gradually, the meetings turned into love. During the course of the relationship, Philip allegedly engaged in physical relations with the woman based on false promises of marriage. Recently, Philip allegedly broke his promise and refused to marry his lover. Subsequently, on the 27th, the deceived woman lodged a written complaint at the Pradhan Nagar police station.


Based on the complaint, an investigation was initiated by the cops of the Pradhan Nagar police station, and Philip Poddar was arrested from his residence in Ashrampara on Sunday. On Monday, the accused was produced before the Siliguri court, where, the court pronounced 7 days remand for further interrogation. At present, the police are engaged in a detailed investigation of the entire matter.
