Man arrested for beating victim to death over alleged bamboo theft in Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 07th June: A pandal decorator businessman has been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was allegedly beaten on suspicion of bamboo theft in Phansidewa. The accused, identified as Subhash Singha, is a resident of Kalagach in Uttar Dinajpur.


The incident took place on Thursday in the Kamadgach area under Bidhannagar II Gram Panchayat, where a man named Mangal Tudu was allegedly lynched after being accused of stealing bamboo meant for a pandal. Tudu succumbed to his injuries, and a written complaint was lodged the following day.

Acting on the complaint, police from the Bidhannagar Investigation Center arrested Subhash Singha. The complaint also names three other individuals in connection with the incident.


Subhash Singha was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday. Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter.
