Rajganj, 16th August: The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) was officially launched in West Bengal on Sunday. The distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards subsequently began in Rajganj.
‘Ayushman Divas’ was observed across the state on Sunday, with the scheme formally inaugurated at an event organised by the Health Department at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.
Following the state-level launch, a card distribution programme was held at Rajganj Rural Hospital. The hospital premises were decorated with balloons, posters and banners highlighting the Ayushman Bharat scheme as part of ‘Ayushman Week’. A special archway was also installed at the entrance, carrying messages related to the scheme.
Around 300 beneficiaries received their Ayushman Bharat cards at the Rajganj Rural Hospital on Sunday. Health workers will subsequently visit beneficiaries’ homes to distribute cards to those who have not yet received them.
Beneficiaries welcomed the launch, expressing hope that the scheme would provide financial support for medical treatment and access to healthcare services.
The programme was attended by Dabgram-Fulbari MLA, Sikha Chatterjee, Rajganj MLA Dinesh Sarkar, Rajganj Police Station IC Amitava Das, Rajganj Rural Hospital BMOH Dr Rahul Roy and social worker Nitai Mondal, along with Health Department personnel, administrative officials and others.
In the presence of the officials, Ayushman Bharat cards were handed over to beneficiaries.
