Siliguri-based sculptor’s Goddess Durga idol to be shipped to South Korea for Durga Puja

Siliguri, 17th August: With Durga Puja approaching, a Goddess Durga idol crafted by Siliguri-based sculptor Sanjib Saha is set to travel to South Korea, where it will be worshipped during Durga Puja by a Bengali society.

Sanjib has created the 4.5-foot fibre idol at his home. The idol will be shipped to South Korea by sea, with the journey expected to take around a month. It will be worshipped during Durga Puja under the initiative of a Bengali society there.

The sculptor spent around three months creating the idol. Although Sanjib had been interested in art since childhood, he had not initially planned to pursue sculpting professionally. Around a year and a half ago, however, he began showcasing his work through social media, sharing photographs and videos of various idols, statues and sculptures he created.

His work caught the attention of a Bengali society in South Korea, which contacted him through social media and commissioned him to create the Goddess Durga idol.

As the idol had to be transported overseas, Sanjib used fibre instead of clay and faced the additional challenge of making it suitable for international shipping. He successfully completed the idol with his craftsmanship.

For Sanjib, having a Goddess Durga idol created by him worshipped on foreign soil is one of the biggest achievements of his artistic journey.
