Siliguri, 17th August: A massive fire broke out at a plastic factory in the Industrial Park on Sevoke Road in Siliguri on Monday morning, triggering panic in the area. The flames quickly engulfed a large portion of the factory, while thick black smoke covered the surrounding area.
As per reports, smoke was first noticed coming from the factory at around 10:30 am. The fire soon spread rapidly, following which four fire engines reached the spot and began efforts to bring the blaze under control.
The fire intensified as large quantities of plastic, chemicals and other flammable materials were reportedly stored inside the factory. The factory was almost completely gutted in the fire, with preliminary estimates suggesting damage worth several crores of rupees.
Police from Bhakti Nagar Police Station also reached the spot. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear, with the fire department and police investigating whether it was caused by a short circuit or another reason. A forensic team is expected to visit the site.
Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza also reached the spot and inspected the site.
