Man and his lover arrested for murdering pregnant wife in Hasimara

Alipurduar, 18th January: A planned murder of an 8-month pregnant woman surfaced from Alipurduar, on Monday. The accused husband and his lover were caught by the police.


It has been learned that Majida Begum’s body was recovered from Hasimara Asian Highway in Alipurduar district on the night of January 13. Her husband Ekramul Haque claimed that it was a miscreant attack. However, the police were suspicious about Ekramul from the very beginning. The police questioned him after he was released from the nursing home on Monday. Following this, the truth of the incident came to light.

The accused informed the police that on January 13, while he was on his way home from Jaigaon with his wife, his lover Rahela boarded the car in the middle of the road and slit Majida’s throat. She also stabbed him with a knife on his back to portray it as a case of snatching.


Following this, the Police arrested Rahela Sultana. In this regard, District Superintendent Y Raghubangshi said that this incident is not a robbery. It is a planned murder.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kuntal Bandyopadhyay said, “We had suspicions about Ekramul from the very beginning. Accordingly, he was interrogated as soon as he was released from the nursing home. Then the incident came to light.”

They were taken to Alipurduar court on Tuesday.
