Mahalaya: School students appeal to save Mahananda River from pollution

Siliguri, 06th October: Mahalaya commenced with several people paying homage to their forefathers on the bank of river Mahananda. The day marks the end of Pitri Pakshya, elders of the family pay homage to their ancestors by performing tarpan, a ritual in which water is offered to the ancestors’ souls.


On Tuesday morning, students of different schools were spotted standing in Lal Mohan Moulik Niranjan Ghat with posters and banners appealing to save the river from pollution. Some even drew pictures of the Mahananda River and appealed to save the river.

The students said “We know the importance of the river. Therefore, this initiative was taken to reduce pollution.”
