Locals stage road blockade after 4 people dies in road accident in Siliguri Eastern Bypass

Siliguri, 26th November: Four people lost their lives after a boulder-laden truck overturned near Jaleswari Bazar in Eastern Bypass, on Thursday night. 6 people were injured in the incident.


The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Sinha, Naresh Sarkar, Jagdish Debnath, and Joydeb Modak. Six others were injured including children and women.

Following this, the agitated locals staged a road blockade in the area on Friday morning and raised voices about inadequate lighting in the bypass area, lack of surveillance by traffic police, and reckless movement of trucks and dumpers. The locals further alleged that a police vehicle was behind the truck, during which, the vehicle lost control and rammed into the bazaar premises while trying to escape from the police.


Police have been deployed in the area since this morning. Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma inspected the spot. He assured to take all necessary measures after talking to the locals. SJDA has also asked to install LED lights.
