Locals protested against setting up an industrial unit of medical waste in Rajganj’s Sannyasikata village

Rajganj, 30th November: Local people protested against setting up an industrial unit of medical waste in Rajganj’s Sanyasikata. Today, a public hearing was held on behalf of the administration in Sanyasikata Gram Panchayat office regarding the said industrial unit. Hundreds of residents protested there.

It has been told that the initiative has been taken by the government for medical waste processing in the Jamadar Gachh area under Sannyasikata village of Rajganj. A company named SNG Enviro Solutions will build an industrial unit on about 5 acres of land. The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 6 crore.

The residents alleged that medical waste from eight districts of North Bengal would be burnt in the said unit which is also a densely populated area and comprises agricultural land. Such constructions will hamper the environment and cited as the main reasons why they will not allow industrial units to be set up.

In this regard, Jalpaiguri’s ADM (LR) Ranjan Chakraborty said that the villagers have given written information not to set up an industrial unit on the specified land. He further said that the matter will be notified to the higher authority. During this, Jalpaiguri’s ADM (LR) Ranjan Chakraborty, Rajganj’s BDO Pankaj Konar along with district health department officials and others were present.
