Locals protest over COVID-19 Quarantine Centre in Asansol, Police attacked with bricks, iron rods and bombs 

Asansol, 14th April: Several policemen today were injured in a clash with the locals who were protesting the setting up of a COVID-19 quarantine centre at a hostel in Churulia near Asansol. 


Reportedly, there are at least 20 people in isolation at the quarantine centre.

While the injured policemen were rushed to local hospitals, reinforcements from the Jamuria police station were sent to the spot where the locals blocked roads and attacked the security forces with bricks, bamboo poles and rods and also rained bombs on them. As the situation worsened the police had to resort to firing tear gas shells.


The officer-in-charge of Jamuria police station, Subrata Ghosh, who rushed to the spot with the reinforcements, was seriously injured when he was hit with an iron rod. Ghosh was rushed to the hospital with a leg injury.
