Siliguri, 14th June: Protests are being staged in Sarojini Pally area of Siliguri’s Ward No. 42 since morning against setting up a cremation ground in the area.
A few days ago, the SMC Board of Administrators announced to build a new cremation ground in the land next to the Mahananda river in the Sarojini Pally area, which eventually led to disagreement between the administration and locals of the area.
On Monday morning, when the workers of SMC reached the spot for cleanliness work, hundreds of residents began objecting. Following this, a large police force reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
Residents claim that they will not allow cremations to be carried out in the area. A huge police force has been deployed at the spot since morning.
