Local express displeasure over illegal quarrying on Neem River in Rajganj

Rajganj, 17th July: The resident of Chhath Maulanigachh of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat of Rajganj expressed anguish over the illegal mining allegedly taking place in the area for a while now.

Local people alleged that a gang of miscreants illegally excavate soil from the banks of Neem river in the said area and are carrying out the business for a long time. Karthik Roy, a resident of the area alleged that outsiders are quarrying the banks of the river despite the villagers stopping them to do so several times. Furthermore, the road is becoming dilapidated by the plying of vehicles loaded with sand. “We want the illegal mining to be stopped and the village road should be repaired,” he added.

Meanwhile, the police of Ambari outpost said that the district magistrate has given strict instruction to bar anyone from mining on the riverbanks. Reportedly, when a team of police reached the spot after receiving the news of the incident, they did not find any JCB or truck at the spot. However, there were traces of soil that had been excavated. Rajganj’s BLRO Rupak Chandra Bhawan said that legal action will be taken after an investigation into the matter.
