Lawyers protest in Siliguri demanding new court building

Siliguri, 19th May: A group of lawyers staged a protest in Siliguri on Monday, demanding the construction of a new court building. The demonstration coincided with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the city, where she was attending a business meet with industrialists at Dinabandhu Mancha.

Members of the Siliguri Bar Association, who led the protest, stated that the demand for a new court building has been pending for a long time. They alleged that despite repeated appeals, the administration has not taken any concrete steps. The protest was aimed at drawing the attention of the Chief Minister to their long-standing demand.

Upon learning of the protest, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb arrived at the scene and assured the lawyers that a new building would soon be constructed on the Siliguri court premises. He added that discussions will be held with Law Minister Moloy Ghatak and the Siliguri Bar Association to take the matter forward.
