Siliguri, 18th February: The Kawakhali Porajhar land dispute issue is boiling up day by day. On Friday, slogans were raised in front of the SJDA office regarding the same. A protest rally was taken out from Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri city on behalf of the Kawakhali Porajhar Bhumi Rakshak Committee today. Which marched towards the SJDA office via Siliguri Junction and Hill cart Road. After which the people in the rally protested and besieged the office.
Mithun Sarkar, the working chairman of the committee, said that in the year 2004, the state government had taken the land of ‘Kawakhali Porajhar’ from the people after giving many assurances.
“The government has cheated us by handing over our lands to rich people and earning crores of rupees in profit,” Sarkar alleged.
Likewise, Abhijit Majumdar, a member of the All India Kisan Mahasabha (AIKM), said that the government has fooled the farmers by giving false commitments and snatching 302 acres of land from the hands of poor people. He alleged that the government has not fulfilled its promise to date and condemned the SJDA for not taking any initiative. The AIKM activist warned of besieging the secretariat Uttar Kanya and Kawakhali if the government fails to fulfill their demands within the next 10 to 15 days.
