Journalists attacked while covering news in Rajganj, complaint lodged at Rajganj police station

Rajganj, 24th July: Several journalists lodged a written complaint at the Rajganj Police Station demanding the arrest and punishment of the accused in the journalist harassment case in Rajganj. The Rajganj Press Club also lodged a written complaint at the police station demanding the same.


It is to recall, on Friday TMC’s SC/ST/OBC cell went to submit a memorandum to the Trinamool-led Sukhani Gram Panchayat Pradhan. Several TMC activists marched with party flags and reached the gram panchayat office. However, as they were not allowed to enter the office, a dispute broke out between the two groups of the party. Allegedly, 7 journalists were attacked at that time by the party workers. They were rushed to Rajganj Rural Hospital for treatment.

On the other hand, Sunil Sarkar, a member of the Trinamool State Core Committee and General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Federation, publicly apologized to journalists at the Rajganj police station premises. He said that the Jalpaiguri district president and Rajganj MLA also apologized for the incident. Besides, action will be taken against the culprits on behalf of the party. Rajganj police have also been asked to take legal action.


Rajganj Press Club secretary Girish Majumder said, “I am demanding punishment for the culprits in this incident. The police have assured to take action. We are looking into it.”
