Rajganj, 14th April: While the banks remained closed today due to the occasion of Bengali New Year, several Jan Dhan Yojana account holders gathered at the customer care center of the Rajganj block Fulbari Bazar area under Jalpaiguri district, since early morning today.
Ignoring the government guidelines, the people stood in close contact with each other without maintaining social distance (a minimum of 1 m).
Recently, the Central Government in a letter to the Siliguri Municipal Corporation expressed concern over the Siliguri public violating the lockdown protocols imposed to contain the spread of the deadly virus. During a press conference on Monday, Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya stated that despite repeated reminders to stay home and not to loiter unnecessarily, there have been complaints of people gathering at various corners around the city deliberately violating the lockdown. Several people are also spotted buying commodities in the market area without maintaining social distance.
Commenting on the Central Government’s letter, Bhattacharya stated that he has asked the Commissioner of Police to look into the matter as soon as possible.
