Irrigation Department stops illegal construction of bridge over Sahu River

Siliguri, 23rd March: The Irrigation Department stopped the illegal construction of an iron bridge over the Sahu River, on Wednesday.


The Sahu River flows between Thakurnagar and Binnaguri Gram Panchayat in Dabgram No. 2 region. Allegedly, some youths of the locality were trying to occupy the river bank by constructing an iron bridge over the river without taking permission from the administration. It has also been alleged that government lands were encroached and sold earlier.


Debashish Pramanik, a member of the Jalpaiguri district council, discovered the matter and immediately informed the irrigation department and Dabgram -2 Panchayat Pradhan Sudha Sinha Roy.

After receiving the complaint, Pradhan Sudha Sinha Roy and the officials of the Irrigation Department reached the Jaldumur area today for an inspection. After checking all aspects, the work of the bridge commenced. The Irrigation Department has also directed the police to keep an eye. Sudha Sinha Roy assured that legal action would be taken soon.
