Inflation dampens Jamai Shasthi celebrations in Siliguri

Siliguri, 04th June: Jamai Shasti is widely celebrated by Bengalis and is a festival that is dedicated to the bond son-in-law share with his mother-in-law. The in-laws prepare different types of dishes for their ‘Jamai’. However, the skyrocketing prices of fruits, vegetables, fish and meat due to inflation have dampened the celebration spirit. 


People were spotted shopping in the markets of Siliguri, on Saturday. Many people were taken aback after hearing the price of the goods. Apparently, Ilish fish is being sold at a rate of Rs 1000 to Rs 1800. While the buyers complained of the unusual price hike, the shopkeepers denied of any mischief.
