Siliguri, 29th July: The Income Tax Department has taken major action against a company director and his wife for allegedly failing to clear income tax dues amounting to crores of rupees for several years.
According to sources, the department has attached three flats registered in the names of company director Satish Goyal and his wife Sarita Goyal.
Income Tax Department sources said that Satish Goyal had long-pending tax dues. Several notices were reportedly issued directing him to clear the outstanding amount, but no payment was made and no satisfactory response was received.
Following the alleged non-compliance, the department initiated attachment proceedings under legal provisions. On Wednesday, an Income Tax Department team reached Sanskriti Apartment on Kalchakra Road in Salugara and pasted attachment notices on two flats registered in the name of Satish Goyal and one flat registered in the name of Sarita Goyal.
The department stated that if the outstanding tax amount is not paid within the stipulated period, further legal action may be taken, including the process of auctioning the attached properties.
The action has reportedly created concern among other taxpayers with long-pending dues. The department has reiterated that strict measures will continue in cases of pending government revenue.
