Imposters posing as police officer and auto driver loot man in Siliguri

Siliguri 09th May: On Sunday, Sanjog Gurung, a resident of Darjeeling, boarded an auto from City Centre towards Champasari. Apart from the auto driver and Sanjog himself, another co-passenger was also sitting in the city auto. As soon as they reached the Regulated Market area, the driver took the vehicle to a secluded place inside Gate No. 02 of the market.
By the time Sanjog figured out what was going on, the passenger sitting beside him identified himself as a police officer and conducted a search on Sanjog. Apparently, the man took away Sanjog’s mobile phone and cash from him, following which the auto driver and the so-called policeman fled away from the scene.
Sanjog Gurung then lodged a complaint regarding the entire incident at the Pradhan Nagar police station. Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation, and within a few hours, arrested the two fraudsters. The arrested have been identified as Shantanu Sarkar (34) and Santlal Rajbhar (30).
According to police sources, Shantanu Sarkar has already been arrested in numerous criminal cases in the past. Apart from the snatching case, several criminal cases have been registered against the duo. They were presented in the Siliguri court today.
Meanwhile, the police recovered Sanjog Gurung’s mobile phone and seized the auto.
