Illegally sourced teak worth lakhs seized, police engaged in investigation

Siliguri, 12th June: North Bengal Medical College Police Outpost recovered illegal teak wood (sagwan) worth lakhs of rupees during a campaign on the Asian Highway in the Chathat area.


During the operation, police seized a truck from Haryana. While a large amount of smuggled wood was recovered from the truck, the truck driver and the assistant driver managed to escape. 

According to police sources, the wood was being taken to Bihar in the truck. After receiving a tip, the police launched an operation and confiscated the said wood. The estimated market value of the recovered wood is said to be lakhs of rupees. Police are investigating the whole matter.
