Siliguri, 18th July: Based on a tip-off, the NJP police, on Friday night, launched operations and detained a betel-nut laden truck from the Fulbari area. A huge cache of illegal betel nuts was recovered from the vehicle.
The truck driver, identified as Joginder Singh, has been arrested in the incident. He is reportedly a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
According to police sources, the estimated market value of the recovered betel nuts is around 50 lakh rupees. The arrested accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday.
