Siliguri, 30th June: Several houses in the villages of Phanshidewa namely Mahipal, Nembutari and Gwaltoli, were flooded with water following heavy rainfall.
The locals blamed lack of a proper drainage system in the village for the situation. They accused the BDO of neglecting and being indifferent toward their difficulties. On Friday, the residents protested by blocking the NH-31 D at Gwaltoli More of Phansidewa which cause a massive traffic jam.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, personnel of Phansidewa Police Station and Ghospukur Traffic reached the spot and tried to calm the situation. One of the locals, Haridas Singh warned of staging such protests in the coming days, if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
