Guppies released in canals and reservoirs of Phansidewa to combat dengue

Phansidewa, 08th August: The Phansidewa block administration released a large number of guppy fishes in numerous canals and reservoirs of the block to eliminate the dengue-carrying mosquitoes and curb the spread of dengue. The event witnessed the presence of Phansidewa Block Development Officer (BDO) Sanju Guha Majumdar, Panchayat Samiti President Reena Ekka, Block Health Officer Arunabh Das, and other administrative officials.


Notably, dengue fever has struck the state with a rise in cases in many districts. In an effort to eradicate the disease, several guppies have been discharged in the numerous sewerage and reservoirs of several markets and areas in Phansidewa. Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the block administration, BDO Sanju Guha Majumdar stated that approximately two lakh guppies, provided by the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, have been released after identifying the canals and reservoirs of prevailing dengue mosquitoes.
