Govt vehicle rams into a toto in Siliguri, kills driver

Siliguri, 7th May: Toto driver, Pramod Braman, resident of Champasari died after an over-speeding government vehicle (Scorpio) rammed into it, on Thursday night.


According to the information, the incident took place near No. 02 Gate of Pradhan Nagar police station adjacent to Siliguri’s Regulated Market. The collision was so strong that both the vehicles crumbled into pieces. The toto driver died on the spot.


Upon receiving the news, the Pradhan Nagar Police personnel reached the spot and took both the vehicles in their possession. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the driver of the government vehicle, who at that time was highly intoxicated. The family members of the deceased have lodged a written complaint against the driver at the police station.

Local people alleged that most of the drivers of government vehicles in Siliguri drive in a drunken state, which often leads to major road accidents. The family member of the said deceased and the Toto Association staged a protest in front of the police station demanding severe punishment to the accused and compensation to the family, last night.

On the other hand, the police have sent the body to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The police are investigating the entire incident. The accused was produced in Siliguri court, on Friday.
