Government offices reopen in Siliguri after 26 days of lockdown

Siliguri, 20th April: On the fifth day of Lockdown 2.0, several government institutions reopened in Siliguri. Work commenced with few employees, on Monday, after the offices remained closed for 26 days due to the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

It is to recall that during his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the lockdown could be relaxed after April 20 in coronavirus-free districts to allow essential activities and resume some important services. But these permissions will be subject to continued strict observance of the social distancing norms and will be withdrawn if guidelines are ignored or if coronavirus spread is detected, he added.

As per the report, the employees of the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Council were spotted wearing mouth masks and hand-gloves while working today. Furthermore, few employees were also sighted in the BSNL office today.

Tapas Sarkar, Chairman of the Sub-Divisional Council, stated that although the office resumed today after 26 days of lockdown, however, the workforce is very less. He further maintained that extra precautionary measures are being taken during office hours.
