Jalpaiguri, 29th May: A new government bus service from Jalpaiguri to Digha was officially launched on Wednesday, offering North Bengal residents an affordable and comfortable travel option to the coastal town. The initiative was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 20th May during a government function at Videocon Ground in Phulbari as part of her North Bengal tour.
Under the supervision of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC), six state-of-the-art air-conditioned buses have been introduced from Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Raiganj, and Malda to Digha’s Jagannath Dham. The Jalpaiguri-Digha service will operate twice a week, with buses departing from Jalpaiguri every Wednesday and Saturday at 4 p.m., and returning from Digha on Thursday and Sunday.
The fare has been subsidized to Rs 1450 until the Puja season, down from the usual Rs 1920, providing an economical travel option for passengers. The new buses offer modern amenities and a smooth travel experience.
The launch event in Jalpaiguri was attended by State Minister Bulu Chik Baraik, NBSTC Chairman Partha Pratim Roy, Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, Jalpaiguri MLA Pradeep Kumar Verma, and Zilla Parishad Chairman Krishna Roy Barman, among others. The initiative has been warmly welcomed by the residents of Jalpaiguri.
