Siliguri, 16th August: An elderly woman was killed in a road accident in Netaji More near the NJP area of Siliguri. The incident triggered tension in the locality.
According to sources, the woman was attempting to cross the road when she was struck by an oil tanker. She fell onto the road and was subsequently run over by the tanker.
Following the incident, personnel from NJP police station reached the spot and rushed the critically injured woman to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The accident led to a commotion in the area, which was later brought under control after police intervened. The tanker involved in the accident was seized and taken to the police station.
The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been ascertained. Police have initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and identify the deceased.
