GJM endeavours to make Didi a national figure: Bimal Gurung

Siliguri, 07th December: After returning from their 15-day Kolkata tour, a delegation of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha headed by President Bimal Gurung arrived at the New Jalpaiguri railway station today. While addressing the media, Gurung asserted that the party endeavours to make state Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee a ‘national figure’.

It is to be noted, Gurung along with a six-member team left for Kolkata on November 23. During the tour, he first offered prayers at Kalighat before commencing his political programmes. The said team, under the leadership of Gurung, met various ministers of the state government concerning various issues relating to the hills.

Although they did not meet the Chief Minister, a meeting was held with her nephew and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on the instructions of Mamata Banerjee. During the discussion with Abhishek Banerjee, the team spoke on various issues including the formation of a committee for a political permanent solution of the hills.

Speaking to the media, GJM President Bimal Gurung coined his Kolkata tour as ‘very successful’. “I extend my best wishes to the leaders of the newly formed parties,” Gurung said when asked about the formation of two new parties in the hills. After the short media interaction, Gurung and his team left for Darjeeling.
