Gate meeting called by Darjeeling Municipality Employees’ Union commence from today

Darjeeling, 17th August: The gate meeting called by Darjeeling Municipality Employees Union commenced from Monday in front of the GTA Lowis Jubilee Secretariat Complex premises.


Employees working in the municipality have been demonstrating in support of various demands for the past few days. Starting today, an hour-long gate meeting has been called on behalf of the union.

The demands include the payment of due wages, immediate implementation of pay band of 2011 or increase in daily wages; Government approval for 129 employees; immediate filling up of vacancies of B, C and D group by daily wage workers of the municipality; online service book facility of the employees; increase the number of employees of the municipality from the existing 539.


According to the Employees’ Union, the 1-hour gate meeting and demonstration will continue for a week. They accused the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC), as well as the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), of failing to provide them with justice. But instead exploiting the employees all these years.
