Former MLA Ashok Bhattacharya makes multiple allegations against state government

Siliguri, 30th June: During a press conference at Anil Biswas Bhawan on Wednesday, Siliguri’s former MLA Ashok Bhattacharya alleged that although instructions have been issued to appoint former councillors as co-ordinators in every municipality in the state to carry out necessary works amid the pandemic, it has not been implemented yet in Siliguri municipal corporation.

He also alleged that the state government and the BoA at SMC have failed miserably in dealing with the pandemic. Furthermore, Bhattacharya wrote to the Minister of State for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Chandrima Bhattacharya concerning multiple allegations.

“Recently, the Board of Administrators have started the bio-mining project. I started this project with the financial grant of the Central during the Left-rule municipality board. However, the current board has not been able to get approval from the state government for any new project or financial assistance for new projects,” Ashok Bhattacharya added.

In response to Bhattacharya’s remarks, BoA member Ranjan Sarkar said that the former SMC Chairman only complained of money deprivation for so many years. He asserted that the board is running as per the state government’s directions. “He is trying to come into the limelight by making such remarks in media,” he added.
