Siliguri, 31st July: The Sukna Forest Department has taken action against alleged violations of rules in an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) by sealing a stone crusher plant in the Matigara area.
A joint team of the Forest Department and BL&LRO conducted a raid at the stone crusher plant of M/S B.N. Roy Company located in Mouza Nimai and sealed the unit.
During the inspection, officials examined the plant’s machinery, operational process, land-related documents and environmental clearances. Following the preliminary investigation, the company was issued a show-cause notice after officials found indications of rule violations.
On the instructions of the Range Officer, the plant was immediately closed. The department stated that the unit will not be allowed to resume operations until the investigation is completed and necessary permissions are obtained.
Officials added that legal action may be initiated after a detailed verification of the documents.
The Forest Department warned that violations of rules in Eco-Sensitive Zones will not be tolerated.
