Forest Department launches ‘Brake for Wildlife’ program to prevent deaths of wild animals

Bagdogra, 26th October: In the tea plantation-dominated Siliguri sub-division, leopards and elephants frequently encounter danger while crossing the national highway. To address this issue, the Kurseong Forest Department has initiated the ‘Break for Wildlife’ program aimed at saving these animals and raising awareness among pedestrians and motorists.

The program was launched as a joint initiative between the Ghoshpukur Range and the voluntary organizations Jamboo Troops and Airawat, taking place at Ghoshpukur More on Saturday. During the event, awareness was spread among bus and four-wheeler drivers traveling on the national highway, complemented by miking in the area.

Rikjyoti Singh, a member of Jamboo Troops, noted that there have been fatalities among leopards due to road accidents last year and this year. To prevent further deaths of wild animals, the program is being conducted again this year.
