Flash flood hits River Mal claiming lives of 8 people while rest still missing, Chief Minister announced financial assistance

Malbazar, 06th October: Tension grips the area of Malbazar when flash flood hit the River Mal during idol immersion claiming the lives of 08 people, while the rest still missing. On Wednesday night, the river had a sudden water-level rise during the puja ceremony. The injured have been admitted to Malbazar Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment. 


It is to be noted that a temporary dam was constructed in the river Mal for idol immersion. But due to the incessant rain in the hills, the river’s water level increased. 

The NDRF team started the rescue operation after receiving the news of the incident late at night. After this, the rescue operation commenced again this morning to search for the missing devotees. On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a compensation of ₹ 2 lakh for the families of the dead and assistance of ₹ 50,000 for those injured. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their condolences through tweets.
