Firing Incident in Siliguri’s Devidanga: Accused arrested, firearm seized

Siliguri, 09th June: Panic gripped the Devidanga area of Siliguri on Sunday night after three rounds of gunfire were reported near Devidanga Bazaar. The accused, identified as Deepak Kamati alias Deepu, was arrested by Pradhan Nagar police, who also recovered a firearm and an empty shell from the scene.

According to locals, Kamati, a resident of Devidanga, has been allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Bhola Baroi, a local resident, claimed that Kamati fired the shots to terrorize residents who had raised their voices against the drug trade. The incident occurred in front of Baroi’s house, and the accused fled immediately after.

Undercover police swiftly acted on the information and arrested Kamati from the area. A gun was seized from his possession. On Monday, police presented the case in the Siliguri court.

Investigations also suggest the possibility of a land dispute being a contributing factor to the firing. Police are now probing all angles related to the incident.
