Siliguri, 01st July: A family dispute hearing turned violent at the Siliguri court premises on Wednesday after two groups allegedly engaged in a physical altercation, leaving several people injured and prompting police intervention.
According to reports, the incident occurred during the hearing of an ongoing case related to a marital dispute between Hasina Khatoon of Ashraf Nagar, Siliguri, and MD Anwarul of Nagrakata.
The case, which has been pending in court for the past five years, stems from allegations made by Hasina Khatoon, who had earlier lodged a complaint at a women’s police station accusing her husband of physical and mental harassment and of remarrying without informing her.
On Wednesday, after the court hearing, tensions escalated outside the courtroom when both sides allegedly engaged in a violent clash. The situation created chaos inside the court premises.
Police personnel intervened promptly and brought the situation under control. Several individuals involved in the incident were detained.
Hasina Khatoon alleged that her husband pressured her to withdraw the case, following which she and her family were attacked after an argument outside the courtroom.
On the other hand, MD Anwarul and his family denied the allegations, claiming that false accusations were made against them and that they were attacked after coming out of the court hearing.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
