Endangered rodent rescued by forest workers of Ambari range

Rajganj, 06th November: On Monday, the forest personnel of the Ambari range rescued a rare species of rodent, commonly known as the bamboo rat.


Locals in Panashguri village adjacent to Baikunthapur forest in Rajganj block spotted the animal on a riverbank on Sunday afternoon. Following this, the Ambari Range’s forest personnel were notified. Subsequently, the forest department workers arrived at the location and rescued the animal.

According to forest sources, the bamboo rat is an uncommon species of rodent that generally inhabits the bamboo groves of the mountains from southeast Nepal to southern China and Thailand, including Myanmar. The animal was spotted in the Baikunthapur forest for the first time.
