Emotional farewell for fallen policeman Tapas Barman

Rajganj, 12th September: A cop of 12th Battalion State Armed Police, Tapas Barman, lost his life in a road accident in the Durgapur expressway in Hooghly district, in the early hours of Friday. 


After Barman’s body was brought to the Police Barrack at Fulbari this morning, his colleagues bid a tearful adieu to the fallen policeman during the wreath-laying ceremony. IG C. S. Lepcha, DIG Samit Lepcha and other officials were present during the service. 


As per the information, Tapas Barman had been working at the 12th Battalion since 2012. He was a resident of Andaran Fulbari area in ​​Tufanganj of Cooch Behar district. Barman left behind his wife and their 3-year-old daughter. 

Tapas Barman was assigned as the security guard of Debashree Chatterjee, the first woman officer-in-charge (OC) of Kolkata Police. 45-year-old Chatterjee was working on deputation in the West Bengal Police as Commanding Officer (CO) of the 12th Battalion. 

It is to recall, the Commanding officer along with her vehicle driver Manoj Saha and her bodyguard was heading towards Kolkata from Siliguri’s Battalion headquarters when their vehicle rammed into a sand-laden truck.

While the driver and her bodyguard were rescued and rushed to the hospital, the doctors declared them dead.
