Alipurduar, 12th October: Sensation prevailed in the area following the death of an individual in a wild elephant attack. The incident took place in the North Khairbari area of Madarihat located in Alipurduar district. The deceased has been identified as Kancha Rai, a local resident.
According to reports, the deceased had left for work in the earlier hours of Thursday when he encountered a group of wild elephants roaming the area. Upon being threatened by his presence, one of the elephants dragged him and critically injured him.
Meanwhile, the locals intervened to rescue him and transported him to the Madarihat Hospital. However, the individual succumbed to his injuries. The catastrophe left the entire region in mourning.
