Alipurduar, 09th January: Sensation prevailed after an elderly couple was killed in an elephant attack in Madarihat under Alipurduar district. The deceased have been identified as Sanu Kami (60) and Geeta Kami (57), residents of the Madarihat East Khairbari area.
It was reported that the couple went to collect fuel in the Jaldapara forest adjacent to the east Khairbari area, yesterday afternoon, during which an elephant attacked them. The locals sighted their bodies in the woods, on Thursday morning.
The Madarihat Police have sent the bodies for an autopsy and have launched an investigation into the incident.
