ED seized 120 cartons of Sikkim-made liquor from a passenger vehicle in Darjeeling

Siliguri, 18th February: The team from the Jalpaiguri Division Excise Department (ED) launched an operation and confiscated a substantial quantity of Sikkim-made liquor worth lakhs of rupees from a passenger vehicle. However, no arrests have been made following the incident.


According to sources, a large quantity of Sikkim-made liquor was secretly being transported to Sukhia Pokhri in Darjeeling. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials launched an operation and investigated a passenger vehicle with the registration number (WB 76 6359), parked outside Darjeeling’s Ghoom station late at night, based on suspicion. During this, 120 cartons of Sikkim liquor were discovered from the vehicle. However, the driver was not present at the scene.

Commissioner Sujit Das of the Jalpaiguri Division Excise Department stated that this operation was carried out based on confidential information and about 120 cartons of Sikkim liquor was seized in the act. The estimated market value of the recovered liquor is Rs 4.5 lakhs. Additionally, a blue book had been recovered from the vehicle comprising all the necessary information to help during further investigation.
