Siliguri, 23rd May: Police achieved a major success in its crackdown against narcotics after Matigara Police arrested alleged drug trafficker Sarina Khatun alias “Pushpa”, who had reportedly been absconding for a long time.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at her residence in the Taluk Jote area under Patharghata Gram Panchayat. During the search, officials recovered 956 grams of brown sugar along with ₹28,000 in cash.
According to police, Sarina Khatun was popularly known as “Pushpa” in Siliguri and is suspected to be one of the masterminds behind the narcotics trade in the region. She allegedly used to procure drugs from outside and supply them across Matigara and several parts of the city.
Police sources said she had been evading arrest for a long time, but was finally caught red-handed during the latest operation conducted on the basis of secret information.
A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act and she will be produced before the court on Saturday. Police are preparing to seek her remand to investigate the wider drug network linked to the case.
