DRI arrests two with foreign gold biscuits and currency in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th September: In another significant breakthrough, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team of the Siliguri unit arrested two individuals with foreign gold biscuits worth lakhs. Following this, the DRI team also recovered foreign currency from both the accused. The arrested accused have been identified as Rocky Barman (35) and Kanchan Bhattacharya (27), both residents of Asansol.


As per reports, upon receiving inputs of Switzerland hallmark gold being transported from Jaigaon to Siliguri, the DRI team launched an operation near the Panikauri toll plaza on Friday night. During this, the DRI team searched two buses on the basis of suspicion.

During the search, 51 pieces of Switzerland hallmark gold biscuits were recovered without valid documents. In addition, DRI recovered 2500 dollars in US currency from both the accused.


According to the information received from DRI sources, the estimated value of recovered gold is approximately 60 lakh 2 thousand and 700 rupees. While the 2500 US dollars amounts to 2 lakh 9 thousand 750 rupees in Indian currency. The inclusive value of the US currency and the gold biscuits amounts to Rs 62 lakh 12 thousand and 450.

On Saturday, both the accused were produced before the Siliguri court, where bail was granted to both the accused. Meanwhile, the next date of the court hearing has been fixed.
