Siliguri, 03rd August: DRI arrested a person last night with gold biscuits worth lakhs of rupees near Siliguri’s Regulated Market. The arrested person has been identified as Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Chhapra Bihar.

Reportedly, through the Indo-Bangladesh border route, Mukesh had planned to enter Bihar with the smuggled gold from Cooch Behar via Siliguri. Acting promptly, the DRI apprehended a bus going to Bihar boarded by the alleged accused Mukesh Kumar near the said market. During the search, two biscuits of gold were recovered from his bag. On failing to show any documentation of the gold, the DRI arrested the alleged smuggler on the spot. The weight of the seized gold biscuits is 1167 grams whose market value is estimated to be Rs 60 lakh 10 thousand 517 rupees.

Today, the DRI presented Mukesh Kumar in the Siliguri court by registering a case under the Customs Act for illegally smuggling gold.
