DRI arrest two with 50 pieces of gold biscuits worth over Rs 4 crore

Siliguri, 20th July: The DRI arrested two smugglers along with 50 pieces of gold biscuits. The arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Kumar and Ramesh Kumar Shukla, residents of Uttar Pradesh. The value of the recovered gold biscuits is around 4 crore rupees.


The DRI team, on Sunday night, recovered 50 pieces of gold biscuits weighing 8 kgs 300 gram from two passengers in a car near a shopping mall adjacent to Burdwan Road in Siliguri. Following this, the DRI team arrested the two on charges of smuggling gold.

According to DRI sources, the duo was planning to transport the gold from Myanmar to Uttar Pradesh via Assam. They were produced at Siliguri court today.
