DRI arrest two with 2 kgs of gold biscuits in Siliguri

Siliguri, 10th September: The DRI arrested two people with around 2 kgs of gold biscuits inside Saraighat Express at NJP station. The arrested accused have been identified as Madan Sannyasi and Partha Sannyasi. Both are residents of Gangarampur.


It has been learned that the DRI, based on a tip-off, raided the NJP station on Thursday night. As soon as the train reached the station at 7 pm, DRI raided the train and searched for the duo. 12 pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from their possession. They were arrested on charges of gold smuggling.

According to DRI sources, 1 kg 992 grams of gold was recovered. The weight of each gold biscuit is 166 grams. The market value of the recovered gold is 95 lakh 72 thousand 759 rupees. They were smuggling gold from the Indo-Myanmar border to Malda via Manipur-Guwahati. They have been produced at the court today.
