DRI arrest gold smuggling racket kingpin in Siliguri

Siliguri, 08th February: The DRI arrested the prime kingpin identified as Balaji Abaso Patil (34), involved in the gold smuggling racket in the city, on Monday.


On December 29, the DRI recovered a total of 7 kg 273 grams of gold from a godown in Hillcart Road, Siliguri. The assumed market value of the smuggled gold is said to be 3 crores 50 lakh 32 thousand 586 rupees.

Reportedly, on December 29, DRI had recovered a total of 7 kg 273 grams of gold from a godown located on Hillcart Road in Siliguri. The market value of the recovered gold was estimated at 3 crores 50 lakh 32 thousand 586 rupees. Apart from this, the DRI also seized seven mobile phones with cash of 1 crore 1 lakh 38 thousand 300 rupees. Along with this, four people were also arrested in this case. Balaji Abaso Patil’s name came up during the interrogation of the said accused. Soon after the matter came to light, Patil managed to flee away.


Taking legal action, the DRI then sent a summon to Patil for questioning the accused then showed up at the office.
After the interrogation, the accused was immediately arrested.

Today the DRI presented the accused to the court. The court has instructed the accused to be kept under judicial custody for 10 days. The DRI will be investigating the matter in detail.
