Jalpaiguri, 07th June: Amidst the Chief Minister's visit to Alipurduar, the Bharatiya Tea Workers Association members initiated a relay fast at Laxmipara Tea Garden in Dooars.
Reportedly, the protest for the demand for minimum wage has been going on for a very long time and several tripartite meetings have been held in this regard. The last meeting was held on June 02 and allegedly the management proposed to increase the workers' wages by only Rs 18. The workers condemned the offer. Hence, they started the relay fast from today at Laxmipara Tea Garden. The protesters said that their hunger strike would continue till their demands are met.
