Siliguri, 02nd July: A minor dispute over garbage disposal in Santoshi Nagar area of Ward No. 05 in Siliguri turned violent on Thursday morning, leaving a youth critically injured after allegedly being attacked with a sharp weapon.
According to local sources, the dispute began between a resident of an apartment and a local youth, identified as Kameshwar Giri, over dumping of garbage and drainage of dirty water from the building.
The situation escalated when a local youth went to speak to the apartment guard regarding the issue. It is alleged that a man came out of the apartment and suddenly attacked Kameshwar Giri with a sharp weapon, seriously injuring him. The injured youth was immediately rushed to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment.
Upon receiving information, police from Khalpara Outpost reached the spot and detained the father of the accused attacker. However, the main accused fled from the scene.
Local residents gathered at the spot and demanded strict action against the accused. Police have started an investigation and are examining CCTV footage and other evidence.
Former ward councillor Anita Mahato also visited the spot and urged police to arrest the accused at the earliest and ensure strict action.
