‘Didi Muni Canteen’ provides free food to the families of patients at NBMCH

Siliguri, 27th June: Numerous families from different parts of the region come for treatment of their patient at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. While public transport is very scarce due to the ongoing COVID-19 partial lockdown, many people are often stuck at the hospital.


In view of this, ‘Didi Muni Canteen’ run by a school teacher Sunanda Sarkar provides free food for such families. the canteen is set up at the NBMCH premises at 2 pm and caters rice, eggs, fried rice, paneer and soybean. The canteen has been running since last May 14.


“I am doing this work in the name of Dadi Ashalata Foundation. As long as the restrictions continue in the state, I will make arrangements for food,” Sarkar added.

Every day more than 200 patients’ families, health workers, ambulance drivers eat at the canteen. Sunanda Sarkar is supported by her husband, Mithu Paul and Amal Paul.
